The Moama Lights were conceived by Mandylights in 2021, working with Murray River Council in response to a state government grant to reactivate unused urban areas. Moama's unique Horseshoe lagoon on the banks of the Murray River was the perfect location for an immersive light trail - several hundred metres of boardwalk, little-used bush pathways and a beautiful vista from the Moama wharf across the river.
Initially presented as a one off event, the Moama Lights captured the hearts of thousands of local residents, and council quickly extended the event for another five years. Since that first year, the event has grown to welcome tens of thousands of visitors from both New South Wales and Victoria, and now contributes over $12m of direct investment each year into the local economy.
The Moama Lights are designed from scratch each year, with unique lighting and audio installations stretched across almost a kilometre of bush trails. Different collaborations take place each year, involving Mandylights' in house team of designers working with local musicians, artists, school children and community stakeholders to create a distinctly local but world-class presentation of technology, art and spectacular illuminations across the month-long festival.
Mandylights is proud to have created the Moama Lights project and to be continually supporting such a dynamic, popular and rewarding event for the local community. Despite a number of similar events springing up around the region, the Moama Lights remains unique in that every part of the experience is designed and installed specifically for the site - never featuring the same artwork twice and always bringing a unique, exciting, locally-focused show.
